WAFCON QUALIFIERS: Falcons Secure Home Win, Trash Cape Verde 5-0

Nigeria’s Super Falcons are close to securing a place at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after a comprehensive 5-0 victory against Cape Verde in Abuja.

Two goals each from Uchena kanu, 7′, 45′ min, Ester Okoronkwo, 66′, 77′ min and Monday gift, 25 Min, completed the rout for the Falcons, in the first leg of their second round WAFCON 2024 qualifers at the Moshood Abiola Stadium.

The Nine-time African champions, were in a devastating mood despite the absence of several key players, including, Michelle Alozie, Christy Ucheibe, Ifeoma Onumonu and Asisat Oshoala.

The game earned Nigeria recording their biggest win in a competitive fixture since beating Equatorial Guinea 6-0 at the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2018

The reverse fixture will take place next week on Tuesday in Praia, the capital of Cape Verde where the overall winner qualifies for the 2024 WAFCON.
