NNL: Abia Comets Down Beyond Limits FA To Secure First Win Of The Season

Abia Comets FC picked a comfortable 2-0 victory over Beyond Limits of Ikenne in the Nigeria National League (NNL) Southern Conference Group A Matchday 2 encounter on Saturday.

Jonah James and Chinatu Eluwa were both on the score sheet in a clash that took place at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

It was a brilliant home coming for the host who lost their first game to Ekiti United, 3-0 as they dominated the first 25 minutes of the game by creating most of the goal scoring opportunities.

It was centre back, Churchill Nnanna who came close to breaking the deadlock twice following a long range free kick, but got saved by the visitors goalkeeper, Emmanuel Olisa.

Comets goalkeeper, Chibueze Lambert was tested, however a world class save was enough to deny Olamilekan Adegboyega a goal for Beyond Limits in the 35th minute.

The atmosphere then heightened up, but it was Abia Comets FC who then took the lead through a sublime goal by Jonah James, heading home a delightful cross from Akpan Mfreke in the 45+2 minutes as the first half ended in favour of the Umuahia based side.

At the resumption of the second half, coach Okechukwu Ejeh of Comet’s, made couple of substitutions to put more force to the team including the introduction of Chinatu Eluwa.

Chinatu then scored with a late minute effort to double the lead when he slotted home a John Kelechi delightful free kick in the 63th minute as Comets secured the victory which, their first of the season.

The victory would be a morale booster for Abia Comets ahead of Friday’s Matchday 3 encounter against Madiba FC slated for the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Lagos.
