CAFCC: Rivers United Cruise Pass Academica Do Lobito Of Angola In Uyo

Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Rivers United, got off to a great start in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup, trouncing visiting Academia do Lobito of Angola 3-0 yesterday (Sunday).

Samuel Antwi opened scoring for the home team after three minutes at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Paul Odeh then doubled Rivers United lead in the 46th minute, before Shedrack Asiegbu made it 3-0 in the 61st minute for the Former NPFL Champions.

Despite Club Africain of Tunisia defeating Ghana’s Dreams FC 2-0, in the other Group C game, the Nigeria sole representatives on the continent (Rivers United) occupy the top spot in the group with same three points as the Tunisian side, but ahead on goal difference.

The Port Harcourt club will be hoping to continue their quest of breaking the jinks when they face Dreams FC in their next game at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday as no Nigeria club have won this competition since it’s formation in 2004.
