WAFU CHAMPIONSHIP: Delta Queens Miss CAF Champions League Spot, Lose To Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa In Benin

Nigeria Women’s League champions, Delta Queens on Thursday lost 1-0 to Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa in the final of the WAFU Championship at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

Despite dominating play in the first half, time Nigerian side, conceded in the 43rd minute.

Ophelia Amponsah of Darkoa, fired home the decisive goal following a counter-attacking move by the Ghanaian side.

Despite their resumed pressure, Delta Queens failed to find the equaliser in the second half.

The results means, the hosts missed out on a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.

It is also the first time Nigeria will not be participating in the CAF Women’s Champions League since its inception three years ago.

In it’s inaugural edition, Rivers Angels represented the Nigeria, while Bayelsa Queens finished third at the last edition in Morocco.
