FIFAWWC: Accept My Apology; Desire Oparanozie After Penalty Miss

Super Falcons striker, Desire Oparanozie, has sent her apologies to Nigerians for missing her penalty kick in their match loss to the three Lionesses of England Round of 16 fixture at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia on Monday.

The Falcons were dumped out of the world tournament following a 4-2 defeat on penalties to the European Champions.

Oparanozie missed the team’s opening penalty, followed by Michelle Alozie as the Lionesses edged Falcons to a quarter-final place.

But reacting to the defeat on her official X handle, (Twitter), Chinese based Oparanozie said she was very disappointed by the loss and even more upset by her penalty miss.

“Sad day! Very disappointing to have lost through penalties and even more disappointing not to have converted mine. And for this, i deeply apologise,” she wrote.

The 29-year-old had not played in any of the Falcons Fixtures in the World Cup.

She was eventually brought in at extra time against England and had three touches before the match went into a penalty shootout.
